As the first
CarbonNeutral company of its type, Commercial has embedded
sustainability into its operations.
By enhancing business processes the company has also reduced
its environmental impact. In 2007, Commercial launched a Carbon
Reduction Programme that will reduce its carbon emissions
by 75% in three years by stages. Our carbon footprint has
been measured and audited by the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon
Management. The company reached its 25% reduction target in
summer 2007.
Commercial has also engaged with suppliers and assisted customers
in their own environmental efforts, including encouraging
a number to themselves become CarbonNeutral.
Within the Service Division, environmental activity is codified
in a ISO14001-compliant Environmental Management System. This
ensures that activities are undertaken to minimise environmental
impacts, for example by using efficient driving techniques,
reducing journey miles and using low pollution cleaning materials.
In addition, energy efficient data centre design, paper-reducing
management systems and server consolidation can all offer
substantial environmental benefits. For example, a recent
server consolidation project saved the customer over 70% of
their energy cost, reducing their office carbon emissions
by 30%.
