Leading
the way in Corporate Social Responsibility
Our Promise
In response to the challenge of climate
change, in 2006 Commercial Group became the first company
of its kind to achieve Carbon Neutral status.
Commercial Group has a commitment to minimising its environmental
impact and encouraging others to do the same. To this end,
Commercial promotes recycled, energy efficient and fair trade
products in conjunction with a strong environmental policy.
Commercial has introduced a class-leading set of targets to
achieve substantial carbon reductions over a 3- year period.
The plan sets targets for a 25% reduction in carbon emissions
within a 6-month period (which has been achieved), 50% reduction
by the end of the 1st year and 75% by the end of 3-years.
These targets will be achieved by a combination of initiatives,
including the implementation of innovative energy efficiency
measures.
To offset unavoidable emissions, Commercial Group is supporting
a number of projects that will provide Gold Standard Carbon
Credits. These projects, audited by KPMG, include initiatives
to provide solar electricity in Sri Lanka , energy efficient
lighting in Jamaica and wind power in New Zealand. Between
them, these projects will reduce CO 2 emissions by over 150,000
tonnes.
The Commercial Group commitment goes further and includes
actively encouraging other companies to engage with climate
change. Commercial Group is supporting other companies through
the process to achieve CarbonNeutral status and has recently
hosted a conference on Corporate Social Responsibility which
was attended by over 200 representatives from industry, government
and commerce.
